A stump left behind is an obstacle every time you mow and an eyesore the rest of the time. We grind them down below grade so the spot can be seeded, planted, or just forgotten about.
Price comes down to three things: how many stumps, how big around they are, and where they sit on the property. A stump out in the open is straightforward; one tucked between a fence and a flower bed, or somewhere the machine has to be walked a long way, takes more work to reach.
This is year-round work. Stumps don't have a season — spring, summer, fall, and winter are all the same to the machine, so there's no reason to sit on it waiting for a better time of year. If it's bothering you now, now is fine.
Access is the part people don't think about. The grinder has to physically get to the stump, which means gates it can fit through, ground it can cross without tearing up, and enough room to work around once it's there. That's why we ask where the stump sits rather than just how big it is — two identical stumps on two different properties can be very different jobs.
Grinding takes care of the stump itself. If there are big surface roots running out from it, or you want the grindings hauled off the property rather than left, point that out when we quote so it's part of the job rather than a surprise at the end.

- Is there a better time of year for stump grinding?
- No. It's year-round work — season, weather, and ground conditions aren't factors. What matters is how many stumps there are, how big they are, and how easily the machine can reach them.
- How far down do you grind?
- Below grade, so you can run a mower straight over the spot and seed or plant it if you want to.
- What happens to the grindings?
- Tell us what you'd rather do with them when we quote. If you want them off the property, we haul debris too and it can be part of the same visit.
- The stump is in a tight spot. Is that a problem?
- Not necessarily, but it's worth mentioning up front. The grinder has to get to the stump, so gates, slopes, and how far it has to travel all affect the job.
- Can you do more than one stump at a time?
- Yes, and it's usually the better way to do it. Count is one of the three things that set the price, so tell us how many you've got when you call.
